Obama, GOP assure to essay for jobs in 2012

President Obama and the Republican Party used separate radio addresses today to ring in the new year, each pledging to do as much as they can to create jobs and grow the economy in 2012.

In the president's weekly radio address, Obama said he will seek "to make America a place where hard work and responsibility are rewarded, one where everyone has a fair shot and everyone does their fair share."

Obama cited accomplishments from the past year, ranging from the end of the Iraq war to the recent deal with congressional Republicans to extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment insurance for two months.

"I expect Congress to finish the job by extending these provisions through the end of 2012," Obama said.

In the Republican radio address, Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., said Republicans plan to create jobs by pursuing tax reform, new energy development, and deregulation of businesses regulations -- in many cases by opposing Obama's policies.

"The burdensome over-regulation by President Obama's federal agencies has resulted in small businesses holding capital on the sidelines and freezing plans to hire new workers. American business cannot plan ahead," Isakson said.

The debate should become especially heated in 2012, as Republicans challenge President Obama in the Nov. 6 election.
