Prosecutors also claim that he was responsible for the disaster.

"The captain is in a very difficult position because we are sure enough that he abandoned the ship when many passengers were still waiting to be evacuated," said prosecutor Francesco Verusio.

A transcript purportedly of conversations between the captain and the coastguard has emerged in the Italian media - apparently drawn from one of the ship's black box recorders - which appears to corroborate the claims that the captain left the ship before all the passengers escaped.

Capt Schettino has denied wrongdoing and says the rocks were not on his charts. He has insisted that he and his crew were the last people to leave the vessel.

His lawyer, Bruno Leporatti, said his client was "overcome and wants to express his greatest condolences to the victims", adding that the captain had carried out a dangerous manoeuvre that had actually saved lives.

Thirteen years ago at Candlestick Park, in one of the last home playoff games San Francisco has seen, Terrell Owens caught a last-minute touchdown pass from Steve Young at the goal line, came to the sideline to celebrate and broke down in the arms of his coach. On Saturday night, All-Pro tight end Vernon Davis followed the same exact script.

Davis snagged the game-winning touchdown pass from Alex Smith with 14 seconds left in the Niners' NFC divisional playoff game against the favored New Orleans Saints. It was the third touchdown in the final 127 seconds and the capper on San Francisco's first playoff win in nearly a decade. And when it was all done, Davis let all his emotions out.
The former first-round pick finished with seven receptions for 180 yards and two touchdowns. His 47-yard reception with 40 seconds left in the game helped set up the final touchdown. In the first quarter, his 49-yard touchdown helped set the tone for what would be a monumental performance for him and his 49ers teammates.

There may not be any crying in baseball, but as long as you put together a playoff game like Vernon Davis, there's no problem with a few tears in football. Let it out.

The 23-year-old beauty queen from Kenosha, Wisconsin, won the contest after singing opera and strutting in a white bikini and black beaded evening gown. She also had to answer a question about whether beauty queens should declare their politics.

CNN) -- A federal judge disclosed Friday that former presidential candidate John Edwards has a life-threatening heart condition, a court source confirmed to CNN.

Edwards had sought a delay in his criminal corruption trial, scheduled to begin this month.

Attorneys and the federal judge met in a North Carolina courtroom Friday afternoon for a status hearing regarding the pending trial of Edwards, a former U.S. senator.

Edwards appeared at Friday's hearing. His lawyers had made the motion for a delay under seal, but some of its details were publicly revealed by the judge in the open hearing.

The criminal trial has been delayed until at least March 26, according to the court source. Judge Catherine Eagles said she has been in contact with Edwards' cardiologist, who recommended a postponement, saying Edwards is scheduled to undergo surgery next month.

Edwards has to provide the court with a written medical update by February 28, according to court records.

One legal expert, Marcellus McRae, a trial lawyer and former federal prosecutor, said he doubted that Edwards' illness would influence a jury verdict.

"Edwards's illness may prompt the public, including potential jurors, to view him in a more sympathetic light. However, it is doubtful that this will have any impact on the outcome of his trial," McRae said. "Given the nature of the charges, his physical condition is of no relevance and he will have in theory recovered by the time the case went to trial in March in any event."

Edwards' attorneys asked in December to delay his criminal trial, saying he had an unspecified medical issue.

Edwards is charged with six felony and misdemeanor counts related to donations to and payments from his failed 2008 presidential campaign. He is accused of conspiracy, issuing false statements and violating campaign contribution laws. He denies any wrongdoing.

Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, died of cancer in December 2010. The couple had separated that year, shortly after Edwards admitted that he had fathered a daughter with Rielle Hunter, who was hired to make documentary videos for his campaign for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

March 26 is also when a North Carolina civil trial is scheduled to start in Hunter's invasion-of-privacy lawsuit against Andrew Young, an Edwards aide in the 2008 presidential campaign.

Hunter is suing Young to reclaim materials that she says belong to her, including an alleged sex tape that involves Edwards.

Actress Heather Locklear was taken to hospital yesterday in California after a 911 call from her Westlake home was made just after 2pm PT. It’s being reported that her hospitalization could have been caused by mixing alcohol and prescription drugs. She is said to be “resting comfortably.”

KNBC told how a Los Robles Hospital spokesman confirmed that Locklear, 50, was admitted and would stay overnight according to msnbc.com. The hospital’s VP of marketing and public relations Kris Carraway-Bowman said she was conscious and stable. People reports that Mike Aranda, Ventura County Sherriff’s Captain said, “Emergency response personnel responded to a medical emergency call at Ms. Locklear’s residence. Once they arrived, it was determined that Ms. Locklear needed to be transported to the hospital for further medical attention.”

Radar Online has also reported on Locklear being hospitalized, telling how a source said that the on-off nature of her relationship with her ‘Melrose Place’ co-star Jack Wagner had led to the actress becoming “distraught.” In November the couple ended their engagement and in December Locklear was hospitalized for a bacterial infection. Radar Online reports a source saying that Locklear’s sister Colleen “was worried about Heather’s state of mind and they were afraid she was going to harm herself,” and referred to drinking mixed with medication.

Meanwhile TMZ focuses on events leading to Locklear becoming ill and reports that law enforcement sources told how the actress had mixed alcohol and prescription drugs and that it was her sister who made the 911 call. Locklear’s parents were with her at the hospital and in an update TMZ reports that the hospital told how she was responding well to treatment and could be released to go home today.

After four incredible years, ‘Wizards’ came to an end tonight. Were you happy with the finale?

I went into the Wizards of Waverly Place finale with trepidation. It felt like an end of an era — Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and now, Selena Gomez — they were now officially done with their Disney days. That said, if Wizards had to end, I was thoroughly content with this ending.

Spoiler alert: don’t keep reading if you haven’t watched yet!

The hour finale was chalk full of moral lessons, action and funny moments. However, what I appreciated most was how we got see the Russo’s putting each other first. During the second level of their competition, the kids ended up disqualified because they took too long during their time outs. It wasn’t until they forgave each other and stopped blaming Alex for the disqualification that they got to participate again. I know it’s a Disney show, which means it’s going to have positive messages, but it was still refreshing to see a family lesson in it all.

Going into the third level of the wizard competition, I was conflicted about who would be named family wizard — Alex (Selena) or Justin (David Henrie) — but it quickly worked itself out. Justin ran through the tunnel first, thus winning the wizard title. Fortunately, he admitted Alex was actually the rightful winner, as she helped him break free from tree roots. Thus, she was crowned the family wizard.

For a hot second, I was bummed for Justin. After all, he was the one who studied the most and worked his entire life to be a wizard. Alex barely lifted a finger. Thankfully, Professor Crumbs wanted to retire after thousands of years of practice and decided to pass his position on to Justin, making him a wizard as well. Voila!

And for those of you who were concerned about Max (Jake T. Austin), he lucked out too. His parents left him the restaurant.

Over all, I was content with the Wizards ending. Sure, it wasn’t super complicated — but it fit the show perfectly. After four memorable years, it was time to say goodbye.

We’re super excited to see The Devil Inside in theaters, but we might have to think twice if this is what happens at every screening!

During a fan screening in Los Angeles Jan. 5 a devil possessed woman jumped out of her seat and into the audience during the movie — freaking out the entire audience. To be honest, it even scared us. The night lighting gives it an extra eery feeling.

People of the world: If you find some footage, leave it be. You will likely be doing the rest of us a huge favor. "The Devil Inside" is the latest in the apparently endless supply of "found footage" fake documentaries that present themselves as cobbled together from the artifacts of a hapless filmmaker on an especially doomed project.

A woman confesses to a triple homicide and is eventually shipped to a hospital for the criminally insane in Rome with ties to the Vatican. (It's seemingly no big deal for an American citizen to be extradited to an Italian mental facility for a crime committed in Connecticut.) Twenty years later, the woman's daughter travels to Italy to find out if her mother is mentally ill or possessed. There is of course a cameraman in tow and after walking into a class for exorcists, they team up with two young priests who practice their own techniques outside the guidelines of the church.

Part of what makes the movie so frustrating in its essential flatness is that there is an interesting idea for a film tucked away in all that, something about the intersection of mental illness and possession, the point where faith must pick up what science can no longer explain. But instead of exploring that, there is lots of tedious exposition with an over-reliance on direct-to-camera confessionals as dutiful setup to a handful of dreadfully handled exorcism scenes. One of the key ad images for the film, an elderly nun whose eyes have no pupils, is seen only in passing and there is a lame attempt to milk a big scare out of a dog barking on the street. Directed by William Brent Bell from a script co-written with Matthew Peterman, "The Devil Inside" plays like a horror film conceived on graph paper.

The film is being released under Paramount's low-budget Insurge Pictures banner, and its filmmakers apparently could not afford an ending. The story doesn't climax or resolve so much as just stop — a recruited audience member at a local premiere/critics preview was overheard saying, "That was it?"

Auto Expo 2012: Tata Motors showcases slew of new models & concepts

NEW DELHI: Expanding its product portfolio in the sports utility and commercial vehicles segments, auto major Tata Motors today showcased three new models slated for launch in the next financial year.

At the 11th Auto Expo held here, the company also displayed four concept cars equipped with alternate fuel technology, based on existing platforms. These were the Tata Nano CNG, Indigo Manza diesel-electric hybrid, Tata Starbus Fuel Cell and Tata Indica Magic Iris CNG.

In the SUV segment, the company displayed the new 'Safari Strome' model. It also showcased the 'Tata Ultra' truck range and 5-axle truck Tata LPT 3723.

"With the Safari Strome, Safari becomes a contemporary SUV suited to the desires of today's SUV lovers. The ultra range and the LPT 3723 will create new segments and generate higher incomes for their owners," Tata Motors (India Operations) Managing Director P M Telang told reporters.

The firm plans to launch these vehicles in the market by next financial year, he added.

Powered by a 2.2-litre, 16-valve diesel engine, the Tata Safari Strome is a four-wheel drive vehicle, while the Tata Ultra truck range comprises a series of variants with 5 to 14-tonne capacity and powered by 16-valve diesel engines.

The Tata LPT 3723 is a 5-axle truck with a payload of 25 tonnes.

Talking about its concept models, the company said the Tata Starbus Fuel Cell has been developed with support from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research under the technology development and demonstration programme.

The company also displayed its Tata Pixel concept, which is based on the 'Nano'. This is a three-seater car with a length of over three metres.

EW DELHI: Tickets for the ongoing Auto Expo 2012 will be sold at 26 stations of the Delhi Metro from Saturday, an official said.

The 11th edition of the Auto Expo began Thursday and will go on till Jan 11.

"The sale of tickets for the general public will start this weekend. Cost of the tickets for the weekend will be Rs 200 and Rs 150 for weekdays," a Delhi Metro official said.

The stations where tickets for the Auto Expo will be available are Jahangirpuri, Vishwavidyalaya, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, HUDA City Centre, Vaishali, Anand Vihar, Noida City Centre, Pragati Maidan, Barakahamba, Karol Bagh, Rajouri Garden, Janakpuri West, Moti Nagar, Uttam Nagar East, Dwarka Sec-9, Mundka, Badarpur, Govindpuri and Lajpat Nagar.

NEW DELHI: Music blared and white smoke swirled in the cavernous Tata Motors hall at the India Auto Expo as an excited crowd milled near a stage displaying the company’s new hybrid car.

Most, though, were craning their necks to catch a glimpse of the carmaker’s new gas-guzzling Safari off-roader being launched on the other side of the hall. Few seemed to notice the sparkling green-technology vehicle behind them.

Billed as an event to showcase new environmentally friendly vehicles entering India’s auto market, about a dozen new hybrid, electric or alternative-fuel vehicles from global and domestic carmakers will debut at the bi-annual expo.

But for all the green glitz, most of these cars, trucks and buses are decades away from gracing India’s roads, executives say. Blame a cost-sensitive market, a lack of on-the-ground support infrastructure, and little or no government support.

“India is very far away from using this sort of technology,” said Kou Kimura, chief executive and managing director of Nissan-Renault India.

“It’s expensive, and needs both government support and the necessary infrastructure to be possible.”

Elin Nordegren, the former Swedish model who divorced golf pro Tiger Woods after a five year marriage when his infidelity was revealed, has reportedly demolished her $12 million home in exclusive North Palm Beach, Florida and will build a new one on the plot.

A report by The Palm Beach Post shows a photo of the vast home taken in the spring, and then a photo of the empty plot taken on January 5.

According to the Post, Nordegren bought the home only about a year ago, after her highly public divorce from Woods in 2010.

A local realtor who told the paper he visited the house for a party in the autumn, said he heard the plan was initially to renovate the 1930s home, but that Nordegren decided to start completely from scratch after work got underway.

The old house in the exclusive Seminole Landing development had eight bathrooms, an in-ground swimming pool, an elevator and a total floor space of 17,000 square feet, according to the Post.

Casey Anthony has taped a video diary entry that has surfaced on the Internet ... and in the clip, she says she's become a mother ... to a brand new dog.

The 4.5 minute video is bizarre ... with Casey sporting a short haircut and glasses ... and rambling about various topics, including how happy she is to be out of jail.

In the clip -- which Anthony says was taped on October 13, 2011 -- she says, "I'm extremely excited ... that I'll be able to Skype and obviously keep a video log ... and that I have something that I can finally call mine."

She adds, “It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to call something mine.”

Anthony was released on July 17 after she was found not guilty of murdering her daughter Caylee. However she is on probation in Florida for check fraud.

In the clip, Anthony -- who does not disclose her location -- says, "I'll be here for many many months ... even if i get off probation early."

Anthony continues, “Now I ... in some ways ... have someone to talk to even when I am by myself so I am not bothering the poor dog ... who I have adopted and I love."

It's unclear why the video is finally surfacing now. Attempts to reach a rep for Anthony have been unsuccessful.

So this is my first video diary, it is October 13th, which is a Thursday, 2011, and I’m just trying to figure out my new computer and I don’t know, I guess I’m liking it so far. It’s obviously a different ballgame for me, because I’ve never used this before. So, I guess these will be as tedious as my audio recordings have been. To start off this one, just a few updates from the last few days, there really hasn’t been all that much going on, except now for this and I’m extremely excited that I’ll be able to Skype and obviously keep a video log, take some pictures… and then I have something to finally call mine. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to call something mine, and now that I have something even — you know, it’s silly to say I have a computer. And a camera and a phone, granted, I wouldn’t have a phone without (inaudible) and know I’ve now actually paid for my own computer, the camera was a gift, these are things I don’t have to give back. It’s kind of nice to say I have some belongings that are mine that I’ll be able to keep with me when I leave next year. It’s kind of funny to think about, actually. It’s going to be a while before I leave, I’m going to be here for many months more, I’m going to be here for 6 months, even if I get off probation early.

I’ll still be here at least until February… the end of February. Seven months, March, my birthday, just either way, you know, whether it’s six months or it’s a year from now or a year from middle of August. I don’t know. It’s just been a blessing in so many ways. And now I have someone to talk to when I’m by myself so I’m not bothering the poor dog. Who I’ve adopted and I love and he’s as much my dog as any of the other pets I’ve ever had (inaudible) families I’ve ever had if not moreso… so… I don’t know… I don’t know whether to look directly at myself, or look up, or… oh man… just a little surreal how much things have changed since July and how many things haven’t changed… but the good thing is that things are starting to look up and things are starting to change. In a good way. Let’s just hope they stay… that things stay good and that they only get better. They’ll only get better. So this is the end of my first video log. I’ll probably do one later.
